50Strong Product Line

By Stephanie Crets

Where do you most often drink bottled water? At the gym, on the go, at the office? Do you prefer straws or a flip-top? Do you want something that can hold a ton of water or something smaller for your daily commute? 50 Strong, a water bottle manufacturer, wants to help consumers answer these questions and find the right water bottle to fit their daily needs with its wide variety of available designs and options. In addition to bottles, the company manufacturers bicycle accessories, including bottle cages to bring your water bottle anywhere and tire levers, that are sold across 3,000 Wal-Mart stores in the United States and - on March 1 - on 50 Strong's website.

To manufacture the right kind of bottle for a variety of consumers, 50 Strong did its homework. "We spent hours upon hours walking and researching hydration aisles at retail and talking to consumers about what they are looking for in a water bottle," CEO Ashley Thompson says. "The result is a line of bottles based on the features that were most in demand, with each one specifically designed to meet varying consumer needs. In addition, our packaging is specially designed to help the consumer easily identify the right water bottle for them, based on the features they are looking for. By doing this, we hope to make the hydration aisle in retail more shopper friendly."

The company wanted to stand out from the crowded water bottle retail segment that's been long dominated by just a few brands. It has overcome the challenge of being noticed in the market by offering an innovative and customizable line of products, Thompsan says.

Each 50 Strong water bottle has a flexible lanyard that comfortably fits two fingers for carry, a wide-mouth opening for easy cleaning and will fit into most cup holders. The bottles are made from durable plastic, are BPA-free, leak-proof, top-rack dishwasher safe and -- most importantly to the company -- are manufactured in the United States. All of its water bottles are manufactured in its Lima, Ohio, facility and last year the company produced nearly three million bottles.

"The name 50 Strong is a nod to the 50 states and the millions of manufacturing workers that live here and work hard," Thompson explains. "We have made it the company’s mission to promote products that are made in America, showing other manufacturers that it is possible to make high-quality, well-designed products here for the same or lower price as competitors who make products in other countries."

To emphasize its committment to American manufacturing, 50 Strong donates 10 percent of profits to its 50 Strong Foundation, which awards scholarships to workers pursuing careers in manufacturing.

"We are proud that 50 Strong is an American manufacturing success story and hope that what we have been able to accomplish will encourage other manufacturers to produce more products domestically and encourage more retailers to take a closer look at and select American made products for their stores," Thompson says.
