The Look: Edgy NFL Designs

By Kat Zeman, Senior Editor at Knighthouse Media

The National Football League (NFL) partnered with students from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to design new marks for NFL teams. Students were challenged to reimagine NFL team identities and come up with new artwork and graphics inspired by the teams’ existing logos and fan cultures.

After a rigorous portfolio review process, the NFL chose 24 students minoring in creative technology. The students paired up into six teams for the contest.

“We were thinking about youth and a fresh look at these marks,” says Rhiannon Madden, NFL vice president of consumer products. “We wanted to see how they would interpret and innovate them. What came back was absolutely beautiful.”

The grand prize of $15,000 went to Team QuickSnap, whose winning designs are being featured on NFL merchandise. “QuickSnap’s designs are very compelling,” Madden says. “It was exciting to see and it’s exactly what we hoped to get from the project.”

QuickSnap’s designs, available to NFL licensees, are featured here. Its team members were, Wing-Sze Ho, Eunsu Yoo, Arpi Dayian and Iwona Usakiewicz.

Pictured designs are from the following licensees: Boelter, Great American Products, Sports Licensing Solutions, Logo Brands and Imperial USA. Second place ($5,000) went to Team Sundrae. The People’s Choice award ($5,000) went to Team Blitz.
