Discover MattressNextDay’s evolution from a single shop to being the UK’s most trusted sleep expert
Celebrating 23 years in business, MattressNextDay is the UK’s leading online mattress and bed retailer. Over the years, the company has delivered millions of high-quality sleep products to homes across the country while also providing expert advice on sleep, home and lifestyle to empower the nation to lead healthier lives. As a National Bed Federation (NBF) approved retailer, the majority of mattresses and beds sold by MattressNextDay are manufactured in the UK and Ireland. Furthermore, each product is selected and tested by the in-house team before listing, ensuring that the highest quality and craftsmanship standards are offered to customers. We learn more about the company’s journey and offerings from Martin Seeley, CEO.

“Currently based in Whitstable, Kent, MattressNextDay was established back in 2003 as a traditional shop in Southwest London before evolving into a leading online retailer in the UK. Despite our somewhat conventional beginnings, we saw where things were going with the rise of the internet, so we adapted fairly early on when it came to moving the mattress industry to the new era of the worldwide web. Today, we are mostly known for our next-day delivery service and being ‘sleep experts’ rather than mere box-movers. In fact, we have won the Online Bed Retailer of the Year award three times in a row now, an achievement we are really proud of,” he begins.
From mattresses and beds to divans and bedding, MattressNextDay carefully selects its industry-leading products from trusted brands, with the aim of revitalizing customers’ sleep through high-quality solutions. Throughout its history, the company has built strong relationships with some of the world’s leading manufacturers, enabling it to offer a wide range of sleep solutions to customers. For instance, MattressNextDay features products from brands like Silentnight, Sealy and Hypnos. On top of that, the company offers its own line of mattresses called Coolflex and even provides a recycling service for customers’ old mattresses, which makes their bed-buying experience smoother and hassle-free.
MattressNextDay’s mattress collection service responsibly disposes of old mattresses, ensuring they do not end up in landfill and contribute to the climate crisis. Every part of the mattress is recycled to prevent anything from going to waste. Each mattress is broken down into its components, which are then sent off to industries that can utilize the raw materials in their processes. Steel from the springs, wool, cotton fillings and even cushioning materials are all given a new life through this eco-friendly process.
As its name suggests, MattressNextDay is particularly renowned for its next-day delivery service; a competitive advantage supported by its own delivery fleet. “Having our own vans, especially in London and around Kent, is a total game changer, as it gives us full control over deliveries. Our drivers are more than just couriers; they act as brand ambassadors. This allows us to offer options like same-day delivery in local areas and super precise two-hour delivery windows. For the rest of the UK, we partner with carriers we fully trust, but having our core in-house team is our secret weapon for reliability,” Martin explains.
Technology and infrastructure
This emphasis on control and reliability is further strengthened by the company’s adoption of technology and its infrastructure in Kent, which have been central to MattressNextDay’s success as its 25th anniversary approaches. “Being an early adopter of digital solutions was a big help in achieving such longevity, though our success remains truly defined by our reliability. By having our own infrastructure in Kent, we have stock available even when our larger competitors do not. While we leverage technology to enhance our services, we strive to maintain the personal, specialized touch that we started with and that originally established trust with our customers. Through this approach, we have experienced a remarkable 48 per-cent revenue growth recently, which was a huge jump for us. I believe a lot of this success stems from our willingness to embrace new technologies like AI to make the shopping experience less of a headache for our customers. Moreover, our large inventory in our warehouse in Kent enables us to stay agile and open to change, and this strategy has clearly paid off,” he reveals.

Lately, the company has been putting a lot of work into enhancing its digital setup. For example, MattressNextDay launched Kip, an AI-powered chatbot that handles thousands of customer inquiries every month, allowing the human team to focus on more complex tasks. On the physical side, MattressNextDay has expanded its Whitstable headquarters to create much-needed additional floor space for stock, empowering it to uphold its next-day delivery promise.
Although investing in technology to support operations is a core component of its strategy, the company is equally committed to growing through these investments without negatively impacting the environment. This is where technology plays a crucial role: its AI systems now optimize delivery routes, thereby reducing emissions. Moreover, the mattress recycling service has made a significant impact by keeping over 60,000 mattresses out of landfills, which is a truly impressive figure.
Technology also enhances MattressNextDay’s product range, as the company consistently explores new materials and concepts to make its offerings more beneficial to users. In its Coolflex line, for instance, MattressNextDay incorporates graphite layers and cooling foams for enhanced comfort. More recently, the company brought out its Uplift adjustable beds, which feature incredibly quiet motors and flexible slats that can be easily adjusted at the touch of a button.
Martin goes on to discuss MattressNextDay’s commitment to community and employee satisfaction, recognizing that a thriving business is built on strong relationships both within and outside its walls. “We are proud of our new partnership with The Fifth Trust, our Charity of the Year for 2026. The Fifth Trust is a local Kent charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, and our entire team is actively engaged in fundraising efforts. Additionally, we have been listening to our staff more closely, implementing their ideas in the warehouse and office to make the workday better for everyone,” he highlights.
With transformative community initiatives and investments in innovation, the future looks bright for MattressNextDay. “In June 2025, we launched our new Brand Ambassador program. As part of this, we brought in experts from TEMPUR, Sealy and Hypnos to give people genuine advice rather than just sales pitches. Looking ahead to 2026, we plan to keep pushing that program while enhancing our exclusive product lines and making the digital experience even smoother. Our main priority is sharpening our AI integration to accelerate processes further. We are also deeply committed to our #SustainableSnooze initiative, aiming to plant a million trees and recycle 100,000 mattresses by 2027. While this is an ambitious target, we are confident we are on track. In the long term, we aspire to become the undisputed leader in the UK bed and mattress market. We want to expand our platform and footprint in Kent while ensuring we remain the greenest and most trusted option. Ultimately, our goal is simple: to help people sleep better,” Martin ends.
By blending AI-powered service with a genuine commitment to community and the planet, MattressNextDay proves that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, thus redefining what it means to be a modern retailer.
